2. No account, local storage

KuGT works without registration and without a user account. Your meals, calorie values, weight entries, goals and settings (appearance, units, reminder) are stored exclusively locally on your device. We have no access to them, there is no cloud backup and no synchronisation by us. Deleting the app or using “Delete all data” in the settings removes this data completely.

3. Food search and barcode lookup

When you search for a food item or enter a barcode number, the KuGT app queries the public product database Open Food Facts (world.openfoodfacts.org) directly from your device to retrieve nutrition data. The search term or the digit sequence is transmitted; for technical reasons the service also processes your device’s IP address. Only the result (name, portion, calories) is stored on your device. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (provision of the function you requested). No processing by AI services takes place; the app uses no photo or AI analysis.

4. Camera (barcode scan)

To scan barcodes, KuGT requests camera access once. The camera image is evaluated by iOS exclusively on your device in order to recognise the digit sequence; no photo is stored and no image is transmitted to us or third parties. Only the recognised barcode number is used further. You can revoke the permission at any time in the iOS settings and enter barcodes manually instead.

5. Apple Health (optional)

Synchronisation with Apple Health is switched off by default. If you enable it in the settings, iOS asks for your explicit permission; KuGT then reads body weight values from Health and writes the weights, calories and protein amounts recorded in the app back to it. This exchange takes place exclusively between the app and Apple Health on your device – we receive no health data. You can revoke the permission at any time in the Health app or the iOS settings. Values already written to Health remain there and can only be deleted in the Health app itself.

6. Notifications

If you enable the daily reminder, KuGT schedules a local notification on your device. No server is involved, no push tokens are created and no data is transmitted.

7. Hosting and server logs

This website is hosted on the web space of united-domains AG, acting as a processor on our behalf pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR. When a page is requested, technically necessary server logs are created (including IP address, time, requested resource, amount of data transferred). They serve solely the secure and stable operation of the site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not evaluate these logs, do not combine them with other data and do not create usage profiles from them. They are deleted as soon as they are no longer required for this purpose.

8. Contacting us

The form on the support page lets you write to us directly. When you submit it, the data you entered (name, email address, content of the message) is transmitted to our webspace and forwarded from there straight to our mailbox by email. It is not stored in a database; the message subsequently remains in our email mailbox.

To fend off automated submissions we limit the number of messages per connection. For this purpose a non-reversible check value derived from your IP address is stored for at most one hour; the IP address itself is not retained. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in protection against misuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

You can also reach us by email at any time. We process the data you provide solely in order to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where a contract or its initiation is concerned, otherwise our legitimate interest in responding to your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Providing a name and email address is necessary for us to reply; without them we cannot process the enquiry. We delete the correspondence as soon as it is no longer required and no statutory retention periods apply.

9. No cookies, no reach measurement

This website sets no cookies – neither its own nor third-party ones – and integrates no analytics, advertising or social media services. No reach measurement takes place. Your browser’s local storage only holds your display settings (colour scheme, contrast, language choice). These are required to operate the site, never leave your device and are exempt from consent under § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG. The KuGT app likewise uses no analytics or advertising SDKs. There is no profiling and no cross-app tracking; no data is sold or passed on to advertising networks.

10. No automated decision-making

Automated decision-making, including profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR, does not take place.

11. Age rating

Global rating of 13+. KuGT is not a medical device and does not replace medical advice.

12. Your rights

You have the right to information, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, the right to withdraw consent at any time, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (e.g. the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Baden-Württemberg). As we do not maintain personal accounts, you can exercise your rights over your app data yourself at any time via “Export data” and “Delete all data” in the settings.
